Welcome to our tour of our 35th state – North Carolina. We began on November 26 and ended on
December 20, 2011.

Most important news is that there were no new RV crises associated with the state.

We started the tour in the mountainous west along the
Blue Ridge Parkway and Ashville, which can only
be described as beautiful. The Appalachian’s are lush and full of wonderful waterfalls. The scenic drives
alone are well worth the trip.
Carl Sandburg’s home is near Charlotte and is preserved as the day he
died. Nothing has been moved. It offers a fantastic tour of a great man’s life.

If you have never driven the
Outer Banks, you need to add it to your bucket list. With the ocean on one
side and the intra-coastal waterway on the other, the drive is full of wonderful beaches and communities
worthy of long, leisurely strolls. You must stop at the
Kitty Hawk National Park and Ft. Raleigh, site of
the first, and most mysterious, attempt at British colonization on our shores.

But don’t sell the interior short. It’s the location of
Mount Airy, the boyhood home of Andy Griffith and
model for his Mayberry; New Bern, the first territorial capital and the birthplace of
Pepsi Cola; and many
great golf courses.
